Hiremaster is proud to have been helping make events a success in the  Wellington region and all around New Zealand.  Originally established in 1948 as "Tea Services Limited" supplying catering services, tea merchant and servicing industrial cafeterias.   During this time the name was changed to TSL rentals, removing the catering and industrial cafeteria work and introducing party ice.  The company has been operating as Hiremaster for the past 30 years with the owner Colin Taylor still at the helm as he has been for the past 52 years.

Through our unmatched event and party experience, we provide solutions for all our customer's event requirements.  Hiring an extensive range of high-quality event and marquee equipment and provide strategic, operational and logistical expertise for successful events.

Role: Part of the Management team at Hiremater. Assisting clients in creating their event look. Product Development and purchasing from our international supply chain. Logistics planning and crew management.

Years at Hiremaster:  24 years - on the team since 1992

Favourite Event: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - 2 years of work with 6 months on the road. The Hobbit Trilogy - 1 year of work and 3 months on the road. Loved this because of how it opened my eyes to all the hidden treasures of our country and made me understand why New Zealand is such a destination for the world. Absolutely stunning.

Favourite Event: Wellington Cup, it was the first event I ever worked on and its a great day out.

Favourite Event: Bledisloe Cup - I try never to miss one when they are held in Wellington.

Favourite Event: Dawali, because of the cultural differences and different requirements making it fun and the food they sometimes bring in afterward as thanks are always great.

Role: Looks after events and assists with inquiries. Mainly discussing with people their event requirements and putting that to a plan.

Favourite Event: Homegrown, so many different job locations for the one event meaning we have to be organized when it comes around so it all goes smoothly. Logistically it’s challenging and stressful adding to the excitement.

Role: Looks after events and assists clients with their event requests - specialising in Balloons!

Years at Hiremaster:  13 years - joined the team in 2004.

Favourite Event: Wellington Cup Day and unusual Balloon requests. No two big balloon jobs are the same making each one different and a challenge. Cup day is huge for us and it’s a lot of running around making sure it all goes smoothly but extremely rewarding once all is over.

Driver/Offsider

Favourite Event: Concerts, because you get to see all that goes on behind the scenes, often catching a glimpse of the set up before any fans do.

Role: Marquee Supervisor, in charge of the build and take down of marquees big and small.

Years at Hiremaster:  13 years - Joined the team in 2004

Favourite Event: Homegrown because on the odd occasion we get tickets to the festival. It’s a challenge having so many sites to supervise and making sure the required deadlines are met but well worth it when it’s all complete.

Favourite Event: Oktoberfest, fun to do and a great team of organisers to work alongside with. Oktoberfest is a fun event for people to attend making it fun to work knowing everyone had a good time.

Favourite Event: WETA Christmas party - 2015 because it was a marquee we hadn’t done before with a see-through ceiling which was really cool to build. What went inside afterwards was awesome just to see how they had used the space to create something incredible.

Role: Marquee Supervisor, in charge of the build and take down of marquees big and small. 

Years at Hiremaster:  15 years - on the team since 2002

Favourite Event: Wellington Cup Day.  Cup day is one of the biggest catering, furniture and marquee events of the year so a lot goes into making sure that it goes off without a hitch. 

Events Team Leader

DEREK SANDOM   M: 027 482 6123

Role: Specialty summer season worker and other big events throughout the year. Oversees the yard equipment as well as assisting drivers and the event teams when required. Will often be sent to site for big jobs making sure it’s all going to plan and being the eyes and ears for the staff at the base. 

Years at Hiremaster:  18 years - on the team since 1999

Favourite Event: Working on The Hobbit was a huge highlight. Being able to travel around the country with the film crew and really see what goes on behind the scenes. Having such a great team behind the making of the movie made for a great experience.

Events Team Leader

MIKE GUPPY   M: 021 272 6126

Role: In charge of getting orders to their required locations on time as well as supervising the offsiders. Holds a class 4 license making him a valuable asset to the team, especially being able to drive all the vehicles within our fleet.

Favourite Event: When ACDC rocked into Wellington. Mainly because I’m a huge fan and was great to be a part of something I was really interested in and attending.

Yard Supervisor

Kingi   Matai:

Role: Maintains all the yard equipment and furniture getting it ready for each job and making sure everything is tested and ready to be delivered. 

Years at Hiremaster:  21 years - Joined the team in 1996

Favourite Event: 2005 British Lions Rugby Tour, we got to travel around for work and assist in setting up the Marquees that were required and stay in Auckland whilst doing so.
